Instructions

  1. Number of Players and about the Set: Chess is a two-person board game that simulates a battle between two parties. Each player is provided with a set of sixteen pieces, while one player is given black pieces, the other player gets the white set. Each set includes 8 Pawns, 2 Bishops, 2 Knights, 2 Rooks or Castles, 1 Queen and 1 King. Each piece has different values.
  2. Important Moves: White set is allowed to move first which is then followed by black. Both the players continue their taking turns till the game ends. Each turn consist of a single act of either moving or capturing. When a piece is moved, it is relocated to a different square box on the gameboard and when a particular piece is captured, it is removed from the board. It is replaced by the attacking piece.   3. Three Stages of the Game: The game is usually divided into three phases. In the starting or opening phase, each player focuses on strengthening his position as fast as possible and at the same time makes such move that does not allow the opponent to develop his position. In the middle phase of the game, the players aim to control the center of the chess board and take advantage of opponent’s weak position. The last phase is characterized by a small number of pieces left on the board. In this phase every move becomes very crucial. Sometimes even a small advantage can result in to victory.
  4. Estimating Status of the Game: There are some vital aspects that one should consider when estimating the status of the game. These are:
    Number of pieces on the board and their relative strength
    Mobility of each individual piece
    Safety of the king

Playing the Game

  1. Firstly decide who will take which set. The player with the white set will make the first move.
  2. Now take turns to make the moves. Try to capture the opponent’s pieces by moving your piece onto the square that is occupied by the opponent’s piece.
  3. Make sure that your King is safe. Protect your King from capture by blocking it with other pieces. Go for moves that would help you to capture those pieces of the opponent that are threat to your King’s safety.
  4. Make careful and wise moves in order to checkmate your opponent’s King. The opponent’s King is at checkmate position when your pieces pose immediate danger of being captured. Make sure that the positioning of your pieces is such that the opponent’s King cannot avoid being captured. If you achieve this, then you win the game.
