How to Write Children's BooksYou require special talent to write for the kids and to get them to fall in love with your book. There are several points which you have to keep in mind when writing for children. The book should be so written as to help the kids to identify with the characters and there should be a bit of camaraderie and also childishness in the events in the book. Children love to have a laugh and share a joke. Tickle their funny bone and never make an attempt at writing very serious things for the kids.

  1. Try to provide a lot of information about the subject on which you are writing. It maybe about a bird or an animal. It will pique the interest of the child and make him continue with the rest of the book.
  2. Include things which the children find interesting like getting into a muddy fight or feeling terrified of storms. They may also identify with stories of trying to find their way home and getting lost on the way.
  3. Make sure that the protagonist of the story is a child himself. The book should be written from the perspective of the child. He should be the one facing the hardships and finding solution sin impossible situations.
  4. Don’t write lengthy books. Children don’t have the patience to read lengthy stories. Make it about 32 pages long with 4 pages for the cover and back illustrations. Try to use words which evoke pictures in the mind. The child will feel happy to be able to imagine what he reads.
  5. How to Write Children's BooksThe ending should always be a happy one with truth vanquishing over evil. The family should be reunited and all the bad deeds forgotten. If possible, add treats for the child so that he ends the book on a happy note which might make him read the book all over again.
  6. Make a rough draft of your book first and then prepare the final version. There is no need to provide the illustrations. Leave that for the editor of your book. Since you are not an artist, concentrate on the storyline only.
  7. Although it s important for the book to help the child develop his vocabulary, yet don’t include words which may be too difficult for the child to comprehend. Read the copy once again and see if you have included words which may not be proper from the perspective of the child.
  8. It is good to have a great understanding of what a child wants to read. You can volunteer to help in a day-care and get to gel with the kids so that you can see the world through their eyes.

Use small words and small sentences to keep the children interested. You will be able to captivate the kids with your anecdotes of funny incidents which will keep the children engaged. Getting to know how to write children’s books is an art and if you have a passion for it, you will be guaranteed to succeed.
