How to Write an Autobiography
An autobiography is a collection of interesting events in your life which may interest others too. There are various ways of writing an autobiography especially when it is your own private life which is going to be brought into public view. Depending on your audience, you can write the autobiography to be read either by you and your close family or by the public who might be interested in knowing the events in your life. However, writing it can never be a tough job as it will be anecdotes of your life which you are very familiar with. But still the process can be made easier by following a few guidelines.
- An autobiography may sometimes be written to get a job. This is a short and succinct summary of your professional history. You may also include details of your birth, your place of stay and about your school and college career.
- Depending on the audience that you are writing the autobiography for, you can vary the style of writing. If many kids are going to read it, then you need to write in a clear and simple way. If many college going students are your audience then you can concentrate on your days in college and how you rose to achieve the goals of your life. But if you are a famous personality, you need to be very careful about your writing because your reputation can be at stake. If you and a handful of your friends are only the audience for the book then you can write very informally about the facts of your life.
- It is good to collect everything that you are going to write on and then set out to write. Think of all the events in your life which you want to share with your audience. There might be some events which might cause controversy and so you should not include them in your autobiography. Your friends and family can also fill you out on some events which you might have forgotten.
-
After you have written about all the events which you want to write about, you can sequence them according to the way in which they have occurred. Consider making different chapters on each event. It will no be easy for you to find out the days which you have not included in the autobiography and what you were doing during them. Again your family can help in giving you the missing details. - After having arranged all the information, make a draft of the same. Then go through this draft and see if there is anything you have missed out. Find out the periods you have missed out and modify the content accordingly. Be very sincere in reading the draft. Go through it any times so that there are absolutely no problems with the copy. Make somebody close to you go through it as well.
- Finally, make the ultimate copy of your autobiography. Generally, you can begin with a very memorable incident in your life and then continue with a chronological account of the events in your life.
