How to Write Academic
A good and desirable academic writing requires more than just excellent writing skills. There are no fixed rules for such writings because while some patterns work better for some it may turn out to be worse for others. However, the secret of successful academic writing lies in proper researching, planning, organizing and presenting of ideas.
If you want to know the right techniques of academic writing, then here are some instructions that may help you create an effective content.
Instructions
- The first thing you need to do is drafting. Even before you start researching and writing you must pen down all the vital parts that your academic writing will consist like introduction, synopsis, method, abstract, conclusion and so on. This initial drafting will not only facilitate adequate research but will also help you estimate the exact amount of sources and lines of argumentation that you will need to complete the project.
- Once you are done with drafting start planning your ideas or arguments. Every writing guideline states that an essay should be balanced. This means you must adopt a logical and comprehensible approach. Your arguments should be structural with respect to their scope as well as to their relevance.
- Go for profound research. Research is very important for the development of arguments and also for creating an original piece of writing. Good research will help you avoid using repetitive and cliché content. Make sure that whatever quoted or referenced matter you include in your text is authoritative and is used diversely and adequately.
- While presenting your ideas do not forget to consider your audience. For whom you are writing and for what purpose? What are your audience’s values and expectations? What are their biases and knowledge? When you start pondering over these questions are likely to present an effective writing.
- There are different formats that you can adopt for your writing like five paragraph theme, hour-glass model, or other formats depending on requirement of the situation. No matter which format you choose make sure that it has a strong introduction that could captivate the interest of the reader, balanced supporting paragraphs that could make your statements balanced and logical and a good conclusion that could leave the reader with something to think about.
- The different parts of your writing should co-relate to each other or to the whole. There should be proper synchronization of ideas. Nothing should look out of place or incomplete.
- Make use of appropriate academic tone and style. No professor would like to read an imitation scholarship that is exalted gibberish. The tone of the academic writing must be inviting to the reader, even while maintaining the appropriate academic style. Make your point clear, brief and persuasive because your reader will not be pleased if you simply inflate your ideas, pump up your pages and use terms that you yourself don’t understand.
Tip to Remember
The basic rule for successful academic writings is balance. The respective writer must intelligently achieve a compromise between the quantity of words and citations as compared to quality of arguments and references.
