How to Write a Dinner Party Invitation
Just like other parties, sending invitation is one of the primary parts of the dinner party arrangements. The type of party you are arranging can be judged by the guests from the invitation card sent by you. You can use the invitation cards to convey the theme of the party by selecting the appropriate card matching with the party theme or by arranging proper wordings on the card to build the invitation request. You can simply print the appropriate wording on the invitation card and make it reflect the purpose for which you are organizing the party. Along with the proper wordings, it is equally important for you to concentrate on some other etiquette for sending invitation to your dinner party.
Your invitation card must contain all the relevant information to be conveyed to your guests. You must include information like, who is hosting the party, who is being invited to the party, where the party is going to be held, what is the reason for throwing the dinner party, the exact date and timing of the event, any special instructions for the guests, your contact details for replying back like address, telephone number, or email address, and RSVP. The RSVP can be requested in a formal written format or through an informal method like telephone, email, or fax. However, you have to mention clearly, the date by which the RSVP has to be replied back.
Instructions
- The wording and etiquette of a dinner party depends on the type of party you are deciding to host. For a formal party, invitation must be sent to guests at least 2 to 3 months in advance, whereas the invitation can be sent prior to 2 to 3 weeks if the party is a casual or informal one. Invitations to most of the modern parties are being conveyed by sending emails or making phone calls. This is a practice which suits most of the informal dinner parties, but the practice should be avoided strictly if the invitation is being sent for a formal dinner party.
- The invitation for a formal dinner party must be worded in a formal manner. The date and time should be spelled out rather than being written in the form of numbers. For instance, you can write ‘seven o’clock’ in the evening instead of ’7.00′ and ‘the fourteenth of February’ instead of Feb 14. But the practice need not be followed while writing an invitation to an informal patty. You are also allowed to use abbreviations of the words while forming invitation for any occasion which is not formal in nature.
- Irrespective of the nature of the party, there is a lot of information which have to be included in the dinner invitation. The common information which are to be included in a formal, informal or a casual party invitation are, who is hosting the party, where the party is going to be held, what is the reason for throwing the dinner party, the exact date and timing of the event. You have to include any additional instructions for the guests like dress code or theme of the dinner party.
- Finally, before ending the invitation you have to include RSVP for allowing the guests to confirm whether they are actually attending your dinner party or not. You should mention your contact details for the guests to send their reply and clarifying any other doubts for the party. The invitation card must contain your address, telephone or fax number, and email address.
