Whipping Cream by Hand
A manual mixer, fork or whisk, requires specific movements with hand.
- To begin with, all the materials required like the bowl, cream and the tool to whip, need to be refrigerated for a minimum of twenty to thirty minutes. This is because chilled cream in a chilled environment is mandatory for getting the right consistency for whipped cream.
- After removing the bowl with two cups of cream, place them in a larger bowl that contains chilled water with ice. Whipping in room temperature will not fetch you the required results.

- Make circular motions with the instrument. Begin slowly to avoid splashing of the cream. Formation of air bubbles is normal initially that would subsequently subside.
- Alternate circular motions with straight movements and move only the wrist. Also change your hands to avoid unpleasantness in one hand due to constant movement.
- Once the volume begins to pick up, the whipping movements could be done faster and faster until the cream is capable of forming peaks that are bent at top.
- Addition of a quarter cup of icing sugar and other flavors could be done either at this step or before you begin whipping. Other flavors include addition of one teaspoon of vanilla extract for vanilla flavor or two teaspoons of cocoa for chocolate flavor or two teaspoons of coffee powder for a coffee flavor. Chocolate flavor in conjunction with mint flavor is the most preferred one.
Whipping Cream with an Electric mixer
Employing an electric mixer for whipping involves the same steps as for doing them by hand except for the technique of using the device.
- For whipping, begin with a low speed and continue for about 30 seconds.
- Once you find bubbles in your cream, increase the speed to medium and remain in this position for another 30 seconds.
- If your find that your mixer leaves a path behind, switch over to higher speed and continue whipping and add flavoring just before the cream gets foamy forms peak.
