You have to begin by observing your Christmas tree and its stand so that you can find a nice place to fit in a 2 liter bottle. It is recommended that you find a bare part of the lower trunk. This area will provide an easier fit.
After having decided on the place where you shall be fitting in the 2 liter bottle, you have to cut out enough twine for wrapping around its trunk and also the bottle for about 4 times. You have to make sure that the bottle is secure. For this you can either cut out more or less amount of twine. However you just don’t have to depend on twine for securing the bottle. You can use any material which you feel can fasten and secure the bottle to the trunk in a proper manner.
After doing all this, you have to fill up the Christmas tree stand to about ¾ full of water. Now fill up the 2 liter bottle with water and then fasten its cap. This bottle has to be now turned upside down. While doing this, you have to take care that the cap of the bottle just barely submerges in the tree stand water. Now attach this bottle to the trunk of your Christmas tree by using twine or any other material that you think is fine for the purpose.
• After having tied up the bottle to the trunk, you have to remove the cap of the bottle. Now you can notice that every time the water level falls below the mouth of the bottle, the water from the bottle will fill up the stand. This way you can keep your Christmas tree well watered while you are away for your weekend vacation.

For keeping a Christmas tree fresh and healthy, it is advised to first choose such a tree that is freshly cut. A tree that is cut the day you are purchasing it is considered the best buy in Christmas trees.
After having bought the tree, cut out 1 inch off its base and then place it in a bucket of water. Keep this in a place which is cool and shady.
Now when you plan to set up your Christmas tree inside, you have to again cut off 1/2 inch off the base of its trunk.
Choose such a tree stand for your Christmas tree that can hold at least 1 gallon of water. Place your Christmas tree in the stand and then add plain water.
Make sure that you water your Christmas tree everyday. Take care that the water level does not fall below the cut end of the trunk. Incase the water falls below this point then a seal will get formed and will prevent any more absorption of water by the tree. During such kind of a situation, you would have to make another cut in the tree’s trunk.
Do not place your Christmas tree in areas which are near to the fireplace, vents or any other sources of heat. You can also spray the tree with an antitranspirant. This will slow down the process of water loss from the needles. Make sure that you spray the antitranspirant before you trim the tree.
