How to Use Excel
Excel is a software program by Microsoft Office for preparing spreadsheets. This is one of the most useful software programs used for mathematical calculations in business analysis . This article will give you some basic idea on how to use the Excel 2007. Excel can be used to accomplish a wide range of assignments such as performing some easy calculations, intricate formulas for making a balance sheet, mathematical functions, accumulating arithmetical representations of presentation activity, business analytics and many more other things. Use of some tabs and commands is described below:
Home Tab: In this tab, you can find sub-tabs for ‘clipboard’, ‘alignment’, ‘font’ settings, ‘styles’, ‘number’ formatting, ‘cells’ and ‘editing’.
- Clipboard
By the clipboard, you can perform work like cut, copy and paste in the excel spreadsheet.
- Font Settings
In the option for font settings, you can change fonts, text sizes, colors, etc.
- Alignment
Alignment helps to merge and center actions. It also helps to wrap text within a cell space, etc.
- Number sub-tab
By the number sub-tab, you can format numbers, add percentage values and decimal places etc.
- Cells tab
With this tab, you can highlight values, make tables, and apply different designs and formats to make cells. Also you can you add or delete cells, locate and replace chosen text or numbers and paste into other cells.
- Edit tab
Here you can sum up totals of chosen number of values. Also you can sort and filter cells as per your necessities.
Insert Tab: Under this tab, there are 5 sub-groups such as tables, charts, illustrations, links and text.
- Table
Under this group, you can draw pivot tables using data in the spreadsheet. You can also draw common tables for analyzing spreadsheet data.
- Illustration
With this command, you can insert different types of clip-art, shapes, pictures, and smart-art into the excel sheet.
- Charts
With this command, you can insert charts of different types such as column, bar, line, pie, scatter, area, and several more charts.
- Links
With this option, it is possible to link data with email addresses, web pages, programs or pictures.
- Text Grouping
This command allows the user to create text boxes, add signature lines, headers and footers, objects or symbols into the excel sheet.
Page Layout: There are five sub-tabs under this tab such as themes, scales, page setup, sheet options and arrangements.
- With the themes sub-tab, it is possible to change the overall design of the spreadsheet. Also you can change font size, color as well as cell text colors and sizes.
- With the other four sub-tabs, you can format and align spreadsheet pages based on the width, height, fitting. You can add gridlines or delete them. It is also possible to move individual worksheets within a file in chosen orders.
Formulas & Data tabs: These tabs hold functions and formulas of many kinds. The commands allocate the user to check calculations, trace precedent and decedent origins of chosen data, correct errors, add data from external sources. It is possible to group and un-group cells, advanced sort and filter data and data validation, etc.
Review & View tabs:
- Some functions of the commands under review tab are checking spellings, language, grammar, etc. It is possible to add comments and track them. You can also protect the spreadsheet and restrict access to other users.
- The view tab helps for creating macros, appearance of the spreadsheet, printing preference etc.
With the 2007 Excel, it is possible to create all types of spreadsheets – from simple to complex data compilations easily.
