How to Unfriend Somebody on Facebook

Facebook has morphed into an epicenter of social networking on the Web. People from various walks of life join Facebook to make friends and improve their social networking quotient. However, beneath every good thing lies an evil. There are times when we get unsolicited friend requests from people that we don’t know of. At times, we may accept friend requests from random people if they have a specific request to be friend with us. But, there comes the caveat: we also need to be careful about whom we accepting the friend request from. If some of the not-so-friendly Facebook contacts display inappropriate behavior, you may want to remove them from your Facebook friend list. Technically, this is known as ‘Unfriending’ someone, a word coined by Facebook which has entered the dictionary due to its global popularity and universal acceptance.

So let’s see how we can unfriend someone from our Facebook friend list:

Step1: Log on to your Facebook account using your username and password.

Step2: Click on your profile option. It is on the upper corner of the left-hand side of your Facebook page and between Home and Account options.

Step3: Once you are on your profile page, take a look at the profile picture. There are four different options under your profile picture. The options are Wall, Info, Photos and Friends. Click on the Friends option.

Step4: When you click on the Photos option, it will show you the profile pictures of all friends who are on your Friend list. Choose the person whom you want to unfriend. If you have over 100 friends and finding the person is difficult for you, you may want to use the search box available there. It says “Search by Name”. Just search the first name and it will show the names of the persons alphabetically.

Step5: When you find the right person whom you want to unfriend from your list, click on their name and it will take you to their Facebook profile. Look at the right-hand side of their profile page. Typically, a Facebook profile page shows the pictures of some friends (associated with the profile) on the right-hand side panel.

Step6: Look below the pictures of the friends and you will see four options available to you in the following manner: Suggest Friend, Unfriend, Share Profile, Report/Block This Person. You need to click on the Unfriend option and a pop-up box will appear asking you if you are sure about removing the person from your friend list. There are two options for you to choose from: Remove from Friends and Cancel. You need to click on the Remove from Friend option and you’re done! As soon as you click on the Remove from Friend option, another pop-up box appears confirming you action of unfriending the person.
