You can simply insert the chip on the backside of the device and it will get power from the phone to remain operational. The chip will send signal to your PC through the monitoring software and still remain unnoticed by the person using the cell phone.
For monitoring the handphone from a computer, you are required to install the monitoring software on the local drive of your laptop or PC. Some programs like MapQuest or Google Maps will effectively trace the cell phone and feed the details to your system at regular intervals.
After installing the software on your local drive, you have to activate the tracking system to start its operation. You can check that the activation is done successfully, when your cell phone will receive a message stating that the particular program has been activated and being operational. Now you can monitor and trace the cell phone irrespective of its user or location. Some software even provide feature to track the speed at which the cell phone is travelling or how long the device remains in a specific location.

Tracing through Google Latitude:

Google Latitude enables you to trace a cell phone without using any other expensive gadgets. You can use this software through your cell phone by crating a GPS network of a set of mobile devices belonging to a group of friends or associates.
Simply download the software from Google apps and install it directly on your handset. After installing the software, set it up by entering your phone number into the entry field on the main page of the application. The application is an advanced version of Google maps which include the embedded latitudes.
Click on the “Menu” and select the “Latitude” option. Now you can set up the application with different cell numbers. Use the option to add friends with their email addresses.
Ensure that the application is installed on the other cell phones which you want to trace. If your friends have not installed the software, ask them to install the application and configure in the exact manner prescribed above.
Once both the cell phones enable the Latitude with respective profiles, the regular Google map pointer will be replaced by the individual’s picture, email address and the location where the particular device was polled last time.
