Bored with the look of your bathroom? Well, you can have a really new look in place by just tiling it again. You can go for a completely new look with a contrast of colors and designs. But you need to do this in a very professional manner so that the installation is flawless. The look of the bathroom will be completely spoiled if you falter in your efforts. In order to do it perfectly, you should study how to tile a bathroom floor before taking on the job.
- The first step is to remove all the fittings from the floor. Most bathrooms have only the commode as it is the basic thing in every bathroom. You need to flush out the water first and tighten the water valve. After that, you can loosen the nuts so that the commode can be removed without any problem. Stuff a rag into the empty space so that the odor does not upset you.
- After taking out the commode, you have to get rid of the existing tiles. This can be done by prying off the molding which keeps the tiles stuck to the floor. After you have completely removed the molding, it is time to get ready to lay the new tiles.
- Before tiling the floor again, it is important to prepare the design first. You can use cardboard so that the squares can be exactly cut. Fixing the center square first will help in tiling the rest of the bathroom.
- You need to mix mortar now and keep it fluid enough to allow the tile to stick to it. Mix only a small amount for a small part of the floor. The trowel can be used to lay the mortar on the part of the floor where you want to start off with. The notched edges of the trowel can be used to crease out the mortar uniformly.

- Then you can put the tiles according to the design which appealed to you. A little bit of pressure will allow the tile to stick to the mortar. It is important to keep a little space in between the tiles. This can be done using a vinyl spacer.
- Now grout can be used to seal the space between the tiles. A rubber grout float can do the job with a little water to help. The float will push the grout in the space between the tiles and the extra bit can be wiped off while holding the float at an angle of 45 degrees. When you are sure that the grout has dried off considerably, you can use a wet sponge to completely wipe off any traces of the grout.
- A sealer can be used at the end to apply the finishing touches after the mortar and the grout have completely dried off.
If you want to have the job done fast, you can opt for quick-setting mortar which will take much less time to dry up so that you can have your job done in hours. Apply the grout only after the mortar has completely dried up. If you heed these handy tips, then your bathroom will look fabulous and you can also save the money you would have spent on the professionals.
