Once you understand the machine setup and the relationship between hand speed, machine cycles per second and needle arrangment go and tattoo yourself....thighs are good. Oh yes you should invest in a quality ultrasonic machine to wash out needles, not just for between colours but to unclog gloopy blood and ink mix.

Always use jelly when practising even on that shit rubber stuff, try using watermelons instead. I've just got my 1st tattoo kit and done 1 swallow on some practice skin. I found Shading on practice skin to be quite inconsistent like blotchy and a little scratchy and I was using a 10 round shader. I also found that between colours wen I washed the needle in water the next colour would then be thinner even tho I'd run the needle through tissue. One last thing is that the practice skin is like rubber it's nothing like human skin. I'd wipe the excess ink away and it just smudges all over so I had to us water every time to wipe. I didn't use any petroleum jelly which I will try next time to see if it helps but I was wondering if there is any better practice skin or is it all the same?
Thanks Slim

Hey guys,<br

For each colour, is it necessary to change tube and needle, or do i simply use water and green soap to rinse between clour?

This may be a really dumb question, but I’m just starting out with proper machines from home doing delicate eagle tatts on myself, but the one thing that none of the “How To Shade” vidoes tell me is…. But if you wanna know specific size, it all comes down to personal preference, size of the space you're shading and how fluent your hand is. I personally just use a 4 or 6 flat needle. I can fit into small spaces with it and I can do a little at a time and it just works economically. So basically what I'm saying is, small tattoo, smaller needle. Bigger tattoo bigger needle. That's what I go by atleast and I haven't had a complaint or touchup yet.To some ppl, shading and tattooing in general easily. It came easy for me even tho everyone says its so hard and you can't just pickup a gun and be good at it (which is partially true) So practice, practice, practice! Hell, buy some of that good practice skin and try it out. Its basically the same concept.

There’s lots of needles to choose from. The shading is too flat, the point of shading is to give your tattoo depth. But you should know that since you have been tattooing for 9 years. I hope your lying about that because if your not maybe tattooing is not for you. Last but not least was that a Round Shader you were using in the video ("WOW 9 years"). I use a 9 double stack needle for a job like that, it works great for me.
That last sentance was for you too SONYP 81 try using MAG needles to shade they work better and might help you with your scratching problem.FACT: thats y the pro's call us scratchers.Dude I dont want to be mean, I only have 2 years and I'm still learning, but I'm not writing post tring to teach people, and if that tattoo is not yours I'm sorry and you should take that picture out. It will hurt your rep.
Once again if it is not your tattoo I'm am VERY VERY SORRY!!!!!!!!!!!!

Sorry to let you know but if thats your shading on the butterfly tattoo, your shading but it sucks.
