Pumpkin seeds are healthy to eat. The shells are edible and are full of fiber. You can add salt or other species to your taste and make a tasty snack that everyone is going to love. The process to make a snack out of pumpkin seed is very easy and you can do it within no time. Here is how you can roast pumpkin seeds.

  • Take the seeds and the pulp and place it in a large bowl of water. Rub gentle on the seeds and try to remove the sticky pulp and meat that stick to the seeds. You can remove the seeds from the water and repeat the procedure to clean the seeds properly. You can use a filter when you drain out the water completely.
  • You can now take the seeds and soak them in salt water for a few minutes. Remove the seeds from the water and place the seeds on a piece of tissue paper.
  • If you want the salty flavor to prevail even after you roast them, you can put the seeds in boiling water for a few minutes along with salt.
  • Now preheat the oven to about 300 degrees.
  • Use a flat pan and place the seeds neatly in a layer. You can use a baking sheet to keep the seeds from sticking to the bottom. Use a baking spray if required.
  • Add some melted butter. If you do not want butter then you can even use some margarine or olive oil instead of butter. You can even use any other low fat oil depending on your taste and desire.
  • Sprinkle some salt on the seeds.
  • Place it into the oven and let it bake for about 30 minutes. The seeds would get visibly brown. You can even put them back into the oven after changing the sides for another 10 minutes.
  • Optionally you can add the spices that you like. The pumpkin seeds taste good with cinnamon powder, maple syrup, honey or nutmeg. You can even make a salty version with sugar, ginger, cumin and cayenne pepper. Also you can use sauces like the hot pepper sauce or Worcestershire sauce to enhance the taste.

Tip: You can also use a microwave or a toaster oven. Alternately you can use pumpkin seed to make a soup or add to the salad. Try to remove the seed with a spoon before you take out the pulp.
