Sometimes you may also have to change the password as you forget your original password for logging in to Gmail through web, POP3 and IMAP. So you need to recover the password and change it. You should remember that when you are resetting your Gmail you are also resetting your Google Account. So you have to use the new password whenever you want to login to any service associated with Google Account like Orkut or Google docs.

Resetting Forgotten Gmail Password

While recovering the Gmail password you must ensure that you have a secondary email address specified for your Gmail account at the time of opening the Google account. Because your password will be emailed by Google to the secondary email id registered with Google.

  1. Go to the Gmail login page and click on the “Can’t access your account?’ link. It will take you to the “Forgot your password?” page.
  2. Type the full email address you use to sign in to your Google Account in the textbox. If you are using Gmail type your full Gmail address.
  3. Click on Submit
  4. It will take you to a page asking you to type the letters in the captcha into the textbox beneath the image. Type the letters and click on Submit.
  5. Open the inbox of your secondary email address and open the Google Password Assistance message received on it.
  6. Follow the instructions mentioned in the password reset link or type answer to your security question and click on Submit.
  7. Enter your desired new password and reenter the same password.
  8. Click on Reset password to get your Gmail password reset

Resetting Gmail Password

  1. Log in to Gmail and click on the Settings link at top right corner of the inbox screen.
  2. Click on the Accounts Tab.
  3. Click on the Change account settings link
  4. It will now take you to the Personal Settings page. Click on the Change password link.
  5. It will now take to the Password change page. Enter your current password, choose a new password, and re-enter the new password in respective textboxes based on their corresponding labels. Enter a word a password with a length of minimum six characters. Also you can decide the strength of the pass word based on the Password strength calculator appearing next to the Choose a new password textbox.
  6. Click on the Change Password button to change your password.
  7. You can see a confirmation message once your Gmail password is reset.
