How to Repaint Kitchen Cabinets
Painting your kitchen cabinets can change the whole look of your kitchen. Painting them all by yourself can help you save a lot of money and also helps in enhancing the décor of your kitchen. You do not have to replace the old cabinets and cupboards, just consider repainting them and you can see yourself working in an almost new kitchen! You will just have to follow this step by step guide and you can treat yourself to a wonderful looking and updated kitchen. The things which are required for accomplishing this task of repainting are as follows:
- A ladder

- Old sheets or cloths
- Scouring pads
- Sponges
- Bucket
- Rags
- Ammonia
- Brush
- A fine grade sandpaper
- Paint primer
- Screw driver
- Latex paint
- Painter’s tape
The process is as follows:
- Begin the process by cleaning the cabinets. Remove all the hardware from the cabinets like hinges or drawer pulls by using a screwdriver. Now you will have to remove the cabinet doors and then clean the cabinets. The act of cleaning the cabinets can be done by using ammonia applied on a soft cotton cloth.
- The next task after the cabinets have been cleaned properly is to sand them by using the fine grade sandpaper. After you have finished doing this, you can clean off the remaining dust with a clean dry cloth.
- There must be some areas near the kitchen cabinets which you do not wish to paint. This might include the walls, ceiling or the trims. Just tape these areas off so that paint does not get in contact with them. Initiate the process of painting by applying a white primer on the entire surface of the cabinets. Remember to apply the primer to the back portion of the cabinets and also those surfaces that have been removed. It is highly recommended to use a water based primer because it is easier to paint latex paint over it. Leave the primer to dry properly.
- Take a synthetic 2 inch to 3 inch brush to apply the latex paint over the primer. You will have to first allow the first coat to dry properly and then lightly sand this surface with fine grade sandpaper. This is done to rough up the surface a bit. Take a clean cloth and remove all the excess dust from the cabinet surfaces. It is up to you whether you want to apply another coat of paint over this; however it is not needed if you have used a good quality primer.
- Wait till all the cabinets have dried properly. After this, remove all tape that you had attached on the walls, ceilings and trims and then re-attach all the removed hardware.
- You can treat yourself to a totally changed kitchen décor with almost new cupboards and cabinets!!
