How to Prepare For a College Interview
College interviews are very important and hence are dreaded by almost every student who aspires to get an admission to a specific college. It is very important for the student to do well in the interview to get a seat in the college. And as the interviews are all about making an impression about you in your teachers and play vital role for your future, it is essential that one prepares well for the interview.
As such interviews are always intimidating and it is natural to grow cold feet before the interviews. But you can get rid of this by being a bit disciplined and practicing on the interview a few times before you actually go for the interview. You can take help of your siblings or parents for the same. Or if you are a parent, you must help your kids go through this difficult time with confidence as it can make or break a career.
No matter how well you studied in you school or how popular you were there, getting into a good college is pretty difficult. It always helps to prepare well before you put your step out. But this doesn’t mean, you need to worry about not qualifying as these are only steps for you to reach your success and not the success itself.
Here are a few steps that you must follow to do well in your college interview. Pay attention to your clothing and hair. You must appear neat and properly dressed to make
that all important first impression.
- Collect the frequently asked question list and prepare original answers to that. Learn sufficiently about the college or university that you apply to as the questions may be directed towards testing your knowledge about that institute. Be clear about why you want to apply for a specific course. Make your own list of questions and practice the answers with your parents or siblings with ample seriousness.
- You must dress reasonably well. Wear some neat clothes with a neat hairstyle. It is better to wear some formal clothes that your favorite football jersey or torn jeans. For girls it is necessary to wear something elegant and decent if not thoroughly conservative. Do not ever go to the interview with chewing gums in your mouth. It gives a very casual and wrong impression.
- Prepare yourself to meet the interviewer with the eye. Give a proper handshake and maintain the eye contact well. Do not get intimidated when you fumble, everyone is scared of the interview when they appear for the first time. Remember even the interviewer was a student and was most likely afraid for his college interview. So, relax and get ready to answer him. But that should not show in the way you sit. Maintain a straight posture as some interviewers are pretty good at body language and can say when you are not sure about an answer. So behave with confidence.
- It is equally important to listen and understand what the interviewer is saying. Do not cut his speech in the middle, wait for him to complete what he is speaking and only then suggest your answer.
