But going outside is always a better option. Let us find out the steps of how to potty train a puppy so that you face no problem in the future.

1. When you buy the puppy, make sure that you set aside a crate specifically for him inside the house. The puppy should understand that he has to remain in the crate when left there. Make other members of the family also do the same to the puppy.
2. While you are potty training the puppy, it is better that he have solid stools. So feed him dry food. This will help you clean easily in case he potties inside the house.
3. Keep the carpets away while you are potty training. It is better if you can keep the puppy in a room where you can easily wash the litter when he fails to go outside.
4. Maintain a strict schedule while feeding him. If he is fed at the same time and also sleeps at the same time every day, he will also potty at one particular time.
5. Try to feed the puppy a few hours prior to sleeping so that his stomach is relatively empty when he sleeps. Also keep his water away at least 2 hours before he goes to sleep.
6. Schedule some timings during the day when you can take the puppy for his potty outside. Do this after each meal and also early in the morning and just before going to bed at night. He may also want to potty after playing with you or his toys. You can also take him out if you find him being restless. Identify a particular spot where you want him to potty and take him there each time. You can choose to keep him on a leash while he is doing the job.
7. Your puppy may not potty every time you take him out. So wait for a few minutes for him to potty and then take him back to his crate. You can repeat the process after some time. This will help the puppy to be potty trained quickly. Don’t forget to reward him with a favorite food item or a pat on the back when he potties outside. Play with him to show him your happiness.
8. After the puppy potties outside, clean it up immediately. It’s no good to keep the feces lying outside all the time.
9. Don’t get angry with the puppy and beat him up if he potties inside. It is your mistake that you did not take him out at the right time. You can know when the puppy wants to potty or urinate when he starts sniffing or turning around in circles. Take him out to the designated place and he will do his job.

You can keep pet cleansers to keep the house odor free if the puppy potties inside the house by mistake. Keep a strict eye on the puppy and you will be able to potty train him in no time. If the problem still persists, then consult a vet.
