How to Play Monopoly

Monopoly is the most popular board game in the world with millions of fans. The board version has now got an online appeal as well. But the objectives remain the same. That is to be the richest of all four players. In a typical board game of monopoly, you have the following equipments.

16 Chance cards
16 Community Chest cards

Steps to Play Monopoly

Once you set up the board and choose the players, you are all set to start playing monopoly.
The Chance and Community Chest cards are placed in their specific place on the board and are upside down.
One of the players also takes up the role of the banker. He has to manage both funds properly.
The banker also has all the title deeds, hotels and house cards before the players purchase them. Also it is the bank that pays salaries and bonuses. It not only sells the houses and the hotels but it also keeps them at mortgage when required by the players. It also collects the fines, taxes, loans and interest etc. The rule is that the bank always has cash. In case it doesn’t have it can take as much as required by using normal paper.
Each of the players is given $1500 (beginning with the highest denomination fake money, each player has $500′s, 2 $100′s, 2 $50′s, 6 $20′s, 5 $10′s, 5 $5′s, and 5 $1′s.) and has to choose a specific colored token. These tokens are used to move around the board.
The rest of the money is kept in the bank.
Each player throws the dice and whoever gets the highest number has to start the play. One the player starts the game. It has to place the token on the go section of the board and throw the dice again to move on the board. The direction to move is specified by arrows in the board. Passing the dice to the left, each player has to take turns.
The tokens move on the board depending on the numbers thrown by the player.
If a player’s token lands on a hotel or house box, he can is eligible to buy that property. Also if it lands on rent or tax option the player has to pay it.
If a player gets doubles with the dice three times conjunctively the player has to go to jail.
There are certain more rules like the salary the player gets when he lands on the go box. If the player lands on the community or chance box after crossing the go the salary is doubled.
If a player lands on a property owned by another player, he has to pay the rent. This rent is mentioned on the title deed card.
The community or chance cards are given to players when they land on that specific box. If they don’t want to use it they can sell it off.
The tax is always 10 percent of the property owned or $200.

With these basics, one can easily start playing monopoly. If a player aims to buy all property in the same color group, they have the option to take double rent from the other players who land on those properties.
