How to Play Fullback
A beginner might be confused with the different positions taken while playing soccer. Each player requires some time to differentiate between various soccer techniques like a sweeper, fullback and central midfielder. So before applying his skills in the field, it is better for each player to spend some time in understanding each of the soccer techniques and select the exact position that suits him best. Also, before deciding on the exact position that matches with your ability, you should practice each of the many positions used in playing this game. Based on your practice and expertise in taking a particular position, you can be a fullback, midfielder, or goalkeeper.
Further, a good fullback player can be a center or left/right fullback. The center fullback is also known as the stopper and his primary task is to distribute the ball to the midfielders with a view to mark the forwards or central midfielders of the opposite team. To be more effective as a stopper, you must improve your skill to play offensively as intervals. As a left or right fullback, your main task will be to mark the forwards of the opposite team. You need to concentrate fully in defending the game and giving up all the offensive raids.
Instructions
- Most of the time, a fullback remains on the back line and pushes the ball forward for a corner. So the fullbacks are seen scoring a header from a corner. While following the ball through the open space to make an interpretation, you will get the opportunity to move forward. So if you intend to be a fullback, you should concentrate more on position to keep transferring the ball by remaining at various corners.
- A fullback normally uses his full strength to make the opposition forward by jostling for the ball or gearing up for a header. You have to react quickly for intercepting the passes by reading the game plan of the opposition team. The action requires accuracy for tackling and getting the ball off the opposition. After being beaten, you will need more speed to catch up with your opponent. While your opponent will apply all tactics to score a goal, you should be prepared to give up everything to stop them from scoring the goal.
- It may also be tough for you as a fullback to try every tactic to stop the opposition from scoring and simultaneously avoiding yourself from getting a yellow or red card either intentionally or unintentionally. These penalty cards are given most of the times to the players who are playing at a fullback position. Don’t be impatient and rush to action without figuring out the opponent’s next move. While playing, you have to be calm and at the some time cautious and observant so that you can avoid getting penalized with a yellow or red card.
- It will help you a lot in preventing the opponent from scoring a goal if you relax and watch the movement and direction of the ball. Your standing up in a relaxed manner may also work as a tactic to take the opponent by surprise and confuse him to commit errors. With a small mistake from the opponent’s side, you can easily take the ball away, and pass it your team to be on attack.
- Along with practicing techniques, you can learn from watching the techniques being applied by most of the experienced and professional fullbacks.
