When you start a game of dice you need to agree upon a few rules. You can sit and jot down the rules as per your knowledge and then ask your co-players to sit and discuss and agree on which of the rules to follow. Some of the rules that you must check are:

The dice has to be rolled before each game and the number that fall face up has to be taken.
The dice must roll and fall flat on the table or on the board. You can mark the area within which the dice must fall to note the numbers. Once the dice falls within the zone – you can take down the number for the player.
If the dice goes out of the area marked or stands or leans half on any other thing then the roll is cancelled and you have to roll again. This can happen many a time and hence if one has to avoid wasting time – one can set penalty for such rolls too.
If you are playing with more than one dice – when rolled, the die may land on another and this situation also cancels the roll and you have to roll again. This again will be allowed for three times and if anyone gets the same ‘stacked’ dice more than three times – a penalty must be agreed upon.
When you determine the players who are to play you can roll the dice each one and the person who scores highest may roll first in the game.
You can change the rules if all are in agreement but these rules have been followed from a long past till date.

You can use a dice to play the board games mostly and you can sit and teach the players the basic rules whenever you want and then you can start the game. You will just need a perfect dice that have all the sides shaped evenly so that it lands face up every time. You will also need pen and paper to gather the scores for each roll. You will also need a cup to roll the dice if it is a single dice. The hand rolled game is also popular as people find they can control the dice better if rolled by hands.

You can use the dice to determine the numbers and then act accordingly. If you are in a board game – you set the board accordingly. If it is something like the poker game, you have to consider the number and find how near the win it goes. You have to be very careful while rolling the dice and have to be aware about all the rules that has been set for the game.
