How to Play Croquet
A game of croquet can stimulate you and put you in the right spirits. Since it involves a struggle between two sides with each player trying to outdo the other by maneuvering balls of both the sides to score points, you feel excited to position the ball after every turn. You can make the game more interesting by giving a really funky name to your team. This will give you great enthusiasm while playing the game. But before setting out to play the game, it is important that you should learn how to play croquet so that you know the rules of the game and your opponents can’t get the better of you.
- The first step is to divide the players into two teams A and B. You can give a catchy name to the two teams too. Let team A have the blue and black balls and the B team have the red and yellow balls of the croquet set.
- Team A has to go first as they have the blue and black balls. You have to take your turn according to the color of the balls on the stake. Blue balls come in first and yellow come in last.
- Once you have your wicket in place, you have to place your ball. Keep the ball 3 feet behind the first wicket. Then all you have to do is hit it through. If you are successful in hitting it through, then you get a bonus stroke. Otherwise, someone else will take over.
- If you are able to place your ball tactically such that it kisses another player’s ball while coming to rest, then you get 2 bonus strokes. This is called a roquet.
- Since you have 2 bonus strokes to play, you can use the first one to move both your own ball and that of your opponent as well. The second stroke can be used to hit your own ball directed at the proper wicket.
- There is a particular order according to which you have to pass your ball through the wickets. The order is as follows: southwest 1, northwest 2, northeast 3, southeast 4, south-central 5, north-central6 and then you can again have the sequence 2, 1, 4, 3, 6 and 5.
-
You can use a colored clip to keep track of the ball. As soon as your ball passes through a wicket, transfer the clip to the next wicket in the sequence. - You have the option of becoming a rover after your ball has completed its traversal through all the 6 wickets twice. Make sure that the order is maintained. As soon as you hit the final stake, take your rover ball out of the game.
- You can now roquet another ball in the game. Each ball can only get once each a turn. Only if the rover passes through a wicket, then it can have a second chance. But there is no way you can roquet the same ball twice, one after the other.
You have a chance to win the game if your team can hit the final stake with both balls before the other team can do it.
Now that you have learnt how to play croquet, you can make your own teams and try winning as many games as possible.
