How to Paint Concrete

It is actually a fact that painting a concrete surface is much easier than any other surfaces. However the one thing which is important is choosing the right kind of concrete floor paint. Almost all concrete paints are the same so it doesn’t matter whether you are using it to paint the exterior or the interiors. Soapy water
Wire brush
Scrub brush
Latex floor paint
Concrete primer/sealer
Paint rollers

The method of painting concrete is given below in the step by step guide:

Begin by scrapping off any old paint that is on the surface. Incase there is any chipping paint on the surface, just scrape it off with a wire brush just before you start painting. You might notice that may be all of the chipping paint wont come off but you can at least try to remove those pieces that are already coming off the surface.
Next you have to wash the surface that has to be painted. You can use TSP or soapy water to clean the surface. In fact soapy water works the best for cleaning the surfaces. You can try to scrub the surface of concrete with soapy water so that all of the excess dirt and debris is removed. This is done because if there is any amount of dirt and debris on the concrete floor then the primer will have much trouble sticking to the surface. Just be very careful that the concrete surface is completely clean before proceeding to paint it.
The next step is applying a concrete sealer/primer to the surface with the help of a roller. You can use the roller in a W shape so that it reduces the wet edges and thus reduces the roller marks at the same time. You will just have to apply one coat of primer. You do not have worry about being perfect while applying the primer because as it is you shall be painting over it again. Allow the primer to dry off for at least 1 hour and then proceed on to paint. Make sure that the paint dries off completely before painting on it. Otherwise you have to make sure that the paint doesn’t have that peculiar tacky feeling when you touch it with your hands.
Now you will have to start the task of painting the concrete surface. Use the color of your choice to paint the surface. It is recommended that you use floor paint while painting on concrete surfaces. Incase you are using regular paint then it just might not work.
Use the similar pattern of a W while painting with the help of a roller. Before you apply the second coat, you will need to wait for 2 hours. Always paint in that area where the ventilation is adequate.
