Prerequisites

Make sure your have all the necessary tools and equipments required during the process before you start painting the room. These supplies can be the painting brush, sprayers, rollers, drop-cloth, tapes etc. This is because it is not an easy task to keep running for such materials in the middle of your work. Cover objects that you cannot move or not required to move with clean drop-cloths. If there are some items that can be removed temporarily, move it to a different place. This is done to protect the items inside the room from dripping of the paints on them. Remove hardware like handles, hinges, electrical switch covers, doorknobs, smoke detectors, etc before applying paints on the walls and ceiling of your room. You should even try to make the room free of spider webs and dust free before starting the task. All these factors make the process comparatively easier and quicker.

Painting Procedure

Organize the surfaces of your room that need to be painted first. Make sure your room is kept dry enough to avoid mold growth. This is because you might need to wipe the surfaces of your room during the process with a sponge or dry soft cloth without having any problem. If there is any existing old paint which is chipping, you should scrape it off with a paint scraping tool or a metal brush. This is necessary so that your new coat of paint does not peel or flake off the surface. Use thinners as per the requirement for applying a coat on the surface. For this you can also follow the instruction mentioned on the manuals of the paint box. It is often advised that you should go for a lighter coat initially. As you proceed you can apply more coats over the surface rather a thick coat in the beginning. Use a diluted acid or a household detergent to remove grease from the walls. This is because such substances will hinder the process of painting the surface smoothly.
