How to Paint a Ceiling
Painting the ceiling of any room is not that tough provided its walls are not too high! Painting can be a fun task if we prepare in advance for the activity. Here we shall be discussing about the method of painting a textured ceiling whose age is beginning to show. You can very easily paint over the existing texture and find yourself viewing a completely changed interior of the room. Painting the ceiling can make the room appear new in a very inexpensive way. You just have to arrange certain things that are needed
for the purpose. They are as follows:
- Paint roller pans
- Paints
- Brushes
- Rollers
- Plastic sheeting
- Staplers
- Paint sprayers
Let us now move over to the method of painting over a textured ceiling. Just follow the points mentioned in the step by step guide given below and you can find your task becoming simpler and easier:
- Firstly we would have to prepare for the painting. Start by choosing a color for the paint. You can always choose any color other than white which suits your imagination. As far as choosing colors is concerned, you just have to let your imagination and creativity take control of you and then see the visual of a new room unfolding before your eyes!
- Before setting off to buy the paint from your nearest home improvement store or a paint store, remember to measure the area of the ceiling. You can also buy the paint from a lumberyard or any hardware store.
-
Also keep in mind that while you are out shopping for the paint, you can also purchase the masking tape, paint rollers, paint sprayer and plastic sheeting from the home improvement store/hardware store. - Before starting to work in the room, you will have to remove as much of the furniture as possible from it. This will help in preventing the furniture being damaged from any stray paint falling/dropping on them.
- You also have to cover the entire floor and any objects that are left behind in the room with plastic sheeting. This will prevent the floor and objects being damaged from any stray paint falling on them.
- Another thing which is very important while painting a ceiling is to cover the upper 3 feet of the wall with plastic sheeting. You can either staple it or tape it in place. Feel free to ask your friend to help you out with this.
- Make sure that the entire ceiling is free from any dirt or cobwebs that might hamper with the painting process. However while doing so you need to take care that you do not drag the vacuum attachment over the texture directly.
- Before you start painting the ceiling, decide whether you want to use a roller or a spray machine while painting. The roller method is much tidier and neat than using a spray machine while painting. But on the other hand it is also very tiring to paint with a roller. Painting with a spray machine is faster but it also is a messier method.
- While painting with a roller, you will have to cut in around the ceiling’s circumference. This can also be done with the help of a disposable foam brush/bristle brush.
- Use the roller to apply around 2 coats of paint on the ceiling.
- However incase you are planning to use the spray machine then it is advised that you use a mask while working. Try and use even strokes while spraying the paint and do so at a distance from the surface.
- Your ceiling is painted new!
