- We have to learn the names of the keys in the piano keyboard as the alphabets of music starts from A-G and again repeat. The name of the note just after the group of 2 black notes is C and just preceding the black notes is F. there are 12 notes in the group of 88 keys in the piano. The letters specify the white notes and sharp or flat signs followed by the alphabets represent the dark notes.
- You have to practice the chord each at a time very religiously. You can separately practice your hands if facing problems while navigating though the keyboard with two hands. Play C-G-E with both left and right, this is called triad. Start initially and then change octaves. Practice each triad in a circle of fifths.
- Next you practice the jazz chords along with the triads; this will help you to master them. Initially play one chord up& down the keyboard and then go from one key to another up & down. This is applicable for both simple and complex chords.
- Now you have to practice each chord with both the hands. Inversions should be practiced in each chord. This is when you play C-E-G, E-G-C, G-C-E & C-G-E and so on. You have to practice all the chords up & down, which you are trying to master, in all keys.
- When you have practiced enough and have learnt the jazz chords in all inversions try practicing each chord from a comfortable position on the key board and work in both ways. Try to do with both hands as smoothly as possible along with limited movement of hands.
- You have to keep in mind that practicing from the very beginning is essential. Any types of chords should be practiced with inversions.
