How to Make Tortilla Chips From Scratch
Everyone loves to eat tortilla chips with a variety of cheese, dips, and salsa. The taste of the chips can be enhanced by cooking them with a controlled amount of sodium and fat used as ingredients. Even though tortilla chips are available in the market from a large number of brands, you can make tortilla chips at home with a number of simple and easily available ingredients. The easiest method for making the chips is to simply get a pack of tortilla from the market, cut the tortillas into strips or triangles, and cook them till they become crispy. For cooking the tortilla chips, you can either bake them in an oven or fry them with some vegetable oil. The chips will be ready for serving once they turn crispy and golden brown. You can easily make tortilla chips from scratch at home, but you should be ready to spend more time in making the chips.
Recipe I
Ingredients
- a12 ounce package of corn tortillas
- 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil
- 3 tablespoons of lime juice
- 1 teaspoon of ground cumin
- 1 teaspoon of chili powder
- 1 teaspoon of salt
Instructions
- Preheat your oven at 350 degrees Fahrenheit or 175 degrees Centigrade
- Cut each of the tortillas into 8 chip sized wedges. Arrange the wedges in a single layer on a cookie sheet.
- Combine the vegetable oil and lime juice and mix them well. Now spray the oil and lime mix on the tortilla wedges till each of the wedges becomes slightly moist.
- Now mix the ground cumin, chili powder, and salt in a small bowl and sprinkle the mixture on the chips.
- Keep the wedges inside the oven and cook for about 7 minutes. While baking, rotate the pan and bake for another 8 minutes or till the chips become crispy.
- Remove the chips from oven and serve as a side-dish with your salsas, garnishes or guacamole.

Ingredients
- a 12 ounce package of corn tortillas
- vegetable oil for frying
- kosher or sea salt for sea
Instructions
- Put the vegetable oil in a deep-frying pan and preheat the oil at 360 degrees Fahrenheit or 180 degrees Centigrade
- Stack the tortillas on a cutting board and cut each of them into 8 wedges using a sharp knife. While cutting you can take 3 to 4 tortillas at a single time and cut them into pieces of exact size. After cutting all the tortillas into pieces, separate the tortilla wedges that feel like sticking together.
- Add a handful of tortillas wedges to the hot vegetable oils and keep them stirring to separate the wedges. Fry the wedges till they become crispy and golden brown. After removing the fried tortilla chips, drain the excess oil from the chips by using tissue or paper towel. Add the kosher or sea salt immediately to the tortilla chips when they are still hot.
- You can serve the tortilla chips immediately or store it for future use in an airtight container at the normal room temperature.
