The sweet, hot and spicy flavor of the condiment makes it popular among a large number of food lovers. You can prepare spicy mustard at home by using a set of easy to available ingredients. It will take only about 15 to 20 minutes to prepare the condiment. Once you made the spicy mustard, you can keep it in a refrigerator and use up to a period of three weeks.

Recipe I

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup of sugar
  • 1/2 cup of dry mustard
  • 1/2 cup of malt vinegar
  • 2 egg whites, lightly beaten

Instructions

  1. Add the sugar, dry mustard, vinegar, and lightly beaten egg whites to a medium sized saucepan and combine the ingredients well by using a spoon.
  2. Put the sauce pan on stove and cook on a medium low heat. Keep stirring the dish constantly during the cooking. Cook for about 5 minutes or till the mixture starts thickening.
  3. The spicy mustard is ready to be served along with the main dishes of your choice.

Recipe II

Ingredients

  • 1/4 cup of water
  • 1/4 cup of whole yellow mustard seeds
  • 1/4 cup of honey
  • 3 tablespoons of cider vinegar
  • 2 tablespoons of ground mustard
  • 1 teaspoon of salt
  • 1/8 teaspoon of ground cloves

Instructions

  1. Pour in the water into a small saucepan and put the saucepan in stove. Bring the water to a boil by setting the heat at high. Now add the whole yellow mustard seeds and cover the saucepan. Remove the saucepan from heat and allow it to stand for about 1 hour or till the liquid is absorbed fully.
  2. Now combine the processed whole yellow mustard seeds with honey, cider vinegar, salt, ground cloves and ground mustard. Transfer the combined ingredients to a food processor and keep processing the mixture by putting on and off the pulse action at regular intervals. Stop processing once the mixture turn thick with coarsely chopped seeds. Scrap down the sides of the work bowl once to gather the mixture.
  3. Transfer the mixture to an airtight container and keep it inside a refrigerator for at least for one full day before serving to guests. You can even store the sauce in the same refrigerated state up to a period of three weeks.

Ingredients

  • 12 ounces of dry mustard
  • 1 cup of white vinegar
  • 1 cup of granulated sugar
  • 4 eggs, well beaten
  • 4 tablespoons of butter or margarine

Instructions

  1. Combine the dry mustard, white vinegar, and granulated sugar by transferring to a double boiler.
  2. Beat the eggs well in a small bowl. Add the prepared mustard mixture to the beaten eggs.
  3. Place the double boiler on heat to cool the mixture. Cook for about 15 minutes or till the mixture becomes thick.
  4. Now remove the cooked mixture from hat and add the butter or margarine. Blend the butter and mixture well to mix the ingredients well.
  5. Transfer the mixture to an airtight container and put it inside the refrigerator for one full day before serving to guests.
