How to Make Soda

How to Make Soda How to Make SodaAlmost everyone likes drinking a soda. But the prices of soda at stores have been hitting the ceiling for a long time now. This is a major reason why many of us postpone the urge of drinking our favorite soda from the stores. However this problem can be averted quite easily. Try making soda at your home itself! This can be inexpensive and also tastes just like your favorite soda at the store. So let us try and make soda in the comfort of our homes. We can begin by gathering the items that are needed for this purpose. They are as follows:

  • 2 ¼ cup of sugar
  • An empty screw top bottle
  • Yeast
  • Soda flavor
  • A jug measuring one gallon (empty and clean)
  • Measuring spoon and cups
  • Funnel

After having assembled all the things that are mentioned in the list above, we can proceed with the task of making homemade soda. Have a look at the step by step guide given below that can make your task all the more easier and simpler:

  • You have to begin by taking a cup of warm water. Make sure that is heated up to 98 to 110 degrees. Now into this cup of warm water, you have to dissolve 1/8 tsp of yeast. Continue dissolving the soda in the warm water for about 5 minutes. You have to be very careful about the quantity of soda that is added to the cup of warm water. This is because yeast is the main ingredient that affects the carbonation of your soda and therefore you have to be sure that you do not add either too much or too little of it.
  • Use the one gallon jug and add 2 ¼ cups of white sugar into it. You shall also have to add one tbsp and one tsp of your chosen flavoring extract to the one gallon jug that already contains the white sugar.
  • Now you have to add the solution of yeast and warm water to the contents of the one gallon jug. After doing so, you will have to add water to the jug though you have to make sure that there is enough space to shake the contents of the jug. Place the lid of the jug on and screw it tightly.
  • Now you have to shake the jug properly so that the sugar in it dissolves in the water. Make sure that you shake the jug firmly but gently also so that the effect of the yeast on the soda doesn’t die out. After shaking the jug for some time, you can pour out its contents into two 2 liter bottles. Take care that the bottles are completely filled. Place the lids on the bottles and screw them tightly. Take the bottles and place them in a cool area where they will not be disturbed.
  • You have to allow the bottles to be in the same position and place for about four to six days before drinking.
  • During the four to six days when the soda develops, you can squeeze the bottles gently to gauge the carbonation. If you find that the bottle is too firm then it means that there is too much of carbonation in your soda. You can loosen off its cap just a bit to allow some of the carbonation to release and soften your soda a bit.
  • After the stipulated time of six days, you can refrigerate the soda and then enjoy your chilled homemade soda with your friends and family!
