How to Make Scones
Scones are the delicious and light snack items that are very easy and quick to make. These are generally traditional cooked pastries that are served as a sweet addition to break fast or brunch. It can also be enjoyed anytime of the day with a cup of tea or coffee. Though there are several bakeries offering real yummy scones, home made scones, when made properly too can taste incredible.

Ingredients Required
- Plain flour
- Baking powder
- Baking soda
- Sugar
- Stick of cold butter
- Cream
- Salt
- Egg
- Milk
Making Instructions
- First prepare a mix of 2 cups of flour, 3 tbsp sugar, 1tsp baking powder, ¼ tsp baking soda and dash of salt in a large bowl. Whisk all the ingredients well until they blend properly.
- Take the stick of butter and slice it into smaller pieces .Add these pieces to the mix prepared in the previous step. Blend all the ingredients once again. Continue to blend until the mix resembles a coarse meal texture.
- Now pour cream into the mix. Knead the flour as you add the cream. Make sure that you add just sufficient cream that holds the mixture together. Probably you will need half a cup of cream.
- Once dough is done, wrap it a clean plastic sheet and place in refrigerator. Chill it in fridge for 20 to 25 minutes.
- While the dough is in the fridge, do the other preparations. Sprinkle some flour on the cutting board where you will roll out the dough. Also coat a baking sheet with a thin layer of butter. Crack an egg in a bowl, add some cream to it and beat the mix.

- Now remove the dough from the fridge, take off the wrap and cut it into half. We will use only the half portion and keep the other half in the fridge for later use. This is important to ensure you don’t end up ‘over-rolling’ the dough.
- Place the dough on the flat surface with sprinkled flour. Now roll out the dough until 1/2 inch thick or less, depending on your preference. Use a cookie cutter, for cutting out as many shapes as can fit. If you find the dough a little dry from the flour, then pour just a little cream to dampen it.
- Put the scone shapes on the baking sheet and apply some beaten egg mix over them. Once you brush the pieces with egg mixture, place the baking sheet into the pre-heated oven (heated at 375F/190C). Allow the scones to bake for 15 minutes or until they turn golden brown.
- After baking, remove the pieces from the oven and place it on wire rack and allow to cool. Before serving you can top it with crème or jelly as per your choice.
- You can also use the remaining dough for making more scones.
