- 1 quart milk
- A dash of salt
- 1 cup of cooked rice
- 2 tsp of vanilla extract
- A wooden spoon/heat proof spatula
- A serving bowl
- Double boiler
- Individual dessert dishes (optional)
The method of making mouth watering and delicious rice pudding can be made simpler and easier by following the step by step guide given below:
- Use the double boiler to boil some water in the bottom of it. Take a bowl and mix in it two thirds cup of sugar, six tablespoons of corn starch and a dash of salt. Now mix it well and pour it into the top of the double boiler. While doing this you have to make sure that the double boiler is off the heat. Now start pouring in the 1 quart of milk into the boiler so that it flows down as a thin stream. Stir all of these ingredients properly so that they mix well.
-
After completing the above step you have to place the top of the double boiler over the lower pan. Remember that this lower pan was filled with boiling water in the first step. Use the wooden spatula/heat proof spoon to stir the contents of the boiler nicely so that all of the sugar dissolves completely in the mixture and the rice pudding starts to thicken up a bit. Be very careful while stirring the pudding. This is because if the stirring is not done properly then the pudding will start forming lumps in it and your entire labor will get wasted. So take care that the pudding is lump free. While stirring the pudding you have to notice the change in its consistency. As soon as you notice that the pudding has started to thicken up nicely, allow it to get cooked for about 5 to 7 minutes. During this period, you do not have to stir the pudding constantly. However keep stirring frequently. - After the stipulated time period, remove the pudding from the heat. You can notice that the pudding has thickened nicely. Now pour in it a cup of cooked rice into this pudding and stir it well so that the grains of rice get separated from each other and get settled in the pudding properly. Also put two tsp of vanilla extract into the rice pudding simultaneously.
- Now just allow the rice pudding to set properly. Leave it to settle down for about 10 minutes. You can stir the rice pudding once or twice during this time. Pour out the rice pudding onto a serving dish and place it in the refrigerator for about 3 hours. Let it chill and settle nicely before you serve it to your guests.
