How to Make Play Dough
A play dough, better known as, play-doh is one sort of a clay for children that is edible and made of specific proportions of flour, salt and water such that the consistency of the dough lets you mold them in desired shapes. Play dough has been gaining popularity rapidly lot more than the chemical clay owing to the fact that it is not only harmless but also is edible. Keeping in mind the fact that children often have the tendency to take things to mouth at a younger age, the polyvinyl chloride clay material is now being replaced with the edible play dough. Now you could be assured that all is well even if you are not around while your child is engaged molding shapes.
You could either prefer to make simple play dough or an elaborate one.
- In order to make simple play dough, all you need to do is gather the necessary ingredients and allow your kid to begin mixing them which in itself could become your child’s favorite sport.
- For this, take a cup full of salt and an equal amount of flour in a hardy mixing bowl and let your child mix the contents thoroughly. You could either employ a plastic spoon or let your child soil hands.
- Slowly commence adding one cup of water to this mixture and let the mixing go on.
- Further kneading could be carried out with bare hands to produce smooth and flexible dough that is your play dough.

- Place them on a floured plane and mould into different shapes as desired.
Children could throw a tantrum at the play dough that is not only made too easily but is uncolored too. Understandably, what could it be to have a play-clay that is not brilliantly colored? A recipe that could be employed to make colorful clay and that which could be stocked after each use could probably make your child happier.
- For this, mix equal volume (1 cup) of flour and salt. To it add half a cup each of water and vegetable oil, followed by a teaspoon of cream of tarter.
- For appropriate mixing, heat the contents on a stove in medium heat and stir constantly. This must not exceed five minutes.
- Allow it to cool such that the play dough is set to the desired consistency and is no more gooey.
- The most loved step for kids in making play dough is coloring. For this separate your play dough into various sections after you flatten them with a rolling pin. Add different food colors to each section as red, blue, yellow and green. You could yield different shades of play dough by reducing or increasing the amount of color or mixing one or more colors. With this you could obtain shades like light or dark green, orange, purple and so on.
- The colorful play dough balls are now ready to be molded into various thoughtful shapes and stored in a refrigerator within an air-tight container for subsequent use.
