Ingredients
To make fresh basil pesto sauce you’ll need following ingredients:
- Fresh basil – 2 to 3 cups (Take a fresh bunch and pick the leaves out)
- Garlic – 3 cloves (or more if you like it)
- Pine Nuts – Half cup (Take any of your favorite nuts like cashews nuts, almonds or macadamia nuts and roast them well)
- Parmesan – half cup (Grate well. You can take pecorino as well)
- Extra virgin oil – half cup
- Salt to taste
Steps to make pesto sauce
- If you have bought fresh bunches of basil, and you can take both the green and the purple ones for making the sauce, pick out the leaves and wash them well. Rinse and dry them on a tissue paper to make sure there is no extra water left on them.
- Start chopping the basil leaves by holding them in bunches. You can use a good sharp knife for the chopping purpose. Once you have chopped properly, you can use a pestle of a food processor depending on your time and choice.
- Chop garlic to be added to the sauce.
- Add the nuts and garlic cloves and use the food processor to make a smooth mixture.
- Once you find the consistency to be good enough, you can add the extra virgin oil you have taken.
- Add salt and mix well.
- Take the parmesan and add to the mixture making sure you don’t leave clots in the sauce.
- You can use a spatula to mix the sauce after taking it out from the food processor.
