How to Make Pasta
Preparing pasta is not that difficult provided you have ample time at hand. Apart from giving oneself a sense of satisfaction by making pasta at home, it can also be very healthy. Homemade pastas contain eggs which are considered to be nutritious for the mind and body of an individual. One can make pasta at home by following the below mentioned steps. The things that are needed for this purpose are as given below:
- 1 tsp salt
- 1 tsp water
- 1 tsp olive oil
- 2 cups of all purpose flour (unbleached)
- 3 eggs

Making pasta by using the pasta machine
- You shall have to begin by mixing all the ingredients in a food processor or by hand. Take all the dry ingredients and blend them well in a bowl and then create a well in its center. Now use all the wet ingredients and beat them well before pouring them into the well. Start mixing all the contents of the bowl till dough is formed. Place the dough on a floured surface and start kneading it. Make sure that you continue kneading the dough till it becomes smooth and doesn’t stick.
- This dough has to be now divided into 4 pieces. You shall have to use one quarter now and keep the other three wrapped in plastic separately so that they don’t dry off. Use your pasta machine and set its rollers on the widest setting. Before feeding the dough through the rollers, make sure that you have flattened it. Continue doing this for about 8 times taking care that each time the rectangle of dough is folded into half and fed through the rollers. Now keep the setting of the pasta machine on the narrowest and start feeding the dough again. However this time you do not have to fold the dough. You can let the sheets dry off by hanging them off the edge of the counter. Make sure that you cut the sheets when they are still soft enough.
Making pasta by hand rolling
- This can be done by using the dough and cutting it into four equal quarters. You shall have to use one quarter and keep the remaining covered in separate plastic sheets. The quarter of dough has to be rolled by using a large rolling pin till it reaches a thickness of 1/8 inch. After having done that, you have to fold the dough again and start rolling till it reaches 1/8 inch of thickness. This process has to be repeated for about 8 times or till the dough becomes too thin. You can then dry the sheet by hanging it and then cutting it as desired.
One thing that is worth remembering is that no matter which way you follow to prepare the pasta, it doesn’t take much time to get cooked. Most varieties of pasta get cooked in about 4 minutes. Make sure that you do not overcook the pasta; it might ruin the taste of the dish that you are preparing.
