How to Make Home-Made Frosting
Frostings are perfect toppings for decorating and enhancing the flavor of cakes. There are hundreds of recipes for frostings. Using home-made frosting for your self made cake is a great idea. So, if you want to learn to make frosting, then try out any of the following recipes:
Chocolate Frosting
Here is a rich chocolate frosting recipe that can be used as creamy and smooth topping on brownies and cup cakes
Ingredients Required
- Unsweetened chocolate
- Cream cheese (room temperature)
- Confectioners’ sugar
- Vanilla extract
- Salt
- Evaporated milk
Preparation
- Take a saucepan and melt some chocolate over low heat.
- In a large bowl, beat the cream cheese until it acquires a fluffy consistency.
- Now stir in the melted chocolate.
- With the help of an electric mixer, blend the ingredients on medium speed.
- Mix in the vanilla and salt. Also slowly blend in the sugar. At this point increase the mixer speed to medium high.
- Gradually add in the milk and continue to beat the mix until the frosting acquires a smoother and finer consistency.
Butter cream Frosting
- 4 egg whites
- 1 cup sugar
- 1/2 cup lemon juice
- Sticks of unsalted butter (cut into chunks)
- Tbsp vanilla extract
Preparation
- Place sugar and egg whites in a bowl (heat-proof) and keep it over simmering water on stove. Allow the ingredients to heat for nearly 3 to 4 minutes. Make sure to whisk the mix constantly.
- Once the sugar is dissolved the mixture will resemble marshmallow cream.
- Now take the bowl off the heat and beat the meringue for about 5 minutes or until it is cool, on medium speed.
- Go on to add the butter and continue to beat until smooth. Add a few squares of butter at a time.
- When all the butter is in the bowl, beat on medium high speed for next 10 minutes or until the mix becomes smooth and thick.
- In case you notice the butter cream curdling, continue beating it. It will come back together.
- Finally add the lemon juice (little at a time) and vanilla. Beat all the ingredients once again on medium speed.
Within few minutes, your smooth and flavorful butter cream frosting will be ready to be used.
