How to Make Green Beans with Bacon
Green beans with bacon are one of the simplest and delicious dishes to cook. You can cook the dish by using a skillet or saucepan as well as an oven. But each method will consume a minimum amount of time and will allow you experiment with additional vegetables and spices.
Recipe I
Ingredients
- 1 pound of fresh green beans
- 2-3 tablespoons of bacon fat
- 1 cup of diced onion
- 5 tablespoons of kosher salt
- 1 teaspoon of fresh ground black pepper
Instructions
- Arrange the fresh beans on a paper sheet and trim off the ends with a sharp knife. If you find the beans to be very young, you can pull the stems off as these will still be tender. Now cut the beans into bite –sized pieces. You can also cut the beans into various fancy sizes of your taste.
- Pour in a few quarts of water into a saucepan and add a few tablespoons of kosher salt. Place the saucepan over heat and bring the salt water to a boil. Add the sliced beans to the boiling water and bring the dish back to a boil.
- After cooking the beans for about 7 to 10 minutes, pull out one piece and check whether the bean is tender. You have to be careful while cooking as the overcooked beans will become too much mushy and not suitable to be fried with bacon. Remove the saucepan from heat as soon as the beans turn tender, but still a little bit firm. Drain the beans and rinse with cold water to cease the cooking process.
- Place a large skillet over heat and add the bacon fat. Once the fat starts melting add the diced onions. Cook by sautéing the ingredients frequently till the onion starts turning brown. Now add the cooked beans to the skillet along with salt and pepper.
- Mix all the ingredients well and toss a number of times to get the beans coated with fat. Stir the dish over medium heat till beans are once again heated through. Transfer the green beans with bacon to plates and serve your guests.
