How to Make Granola
We are so much used to buying the breakfast cereal from the market that, we don’t ever really think of making it. While we put so much stress on consuming, we tend to eat those available in the market knowing that they are high in calorie. Though we can not actually prepare all types of cereals, we can definitely make the granola cereals at home. And we can also make it healthier and less sweet so that we consume less calories on a daily basis. It is exceedingly easy to make and can be stored in the refrigerator for quite some time.
Granola mainly consists of rolled oats, seeds, honey, nuts, raisin, dates and at times even rice flakes. You can choose the ingredients as per your taste and choice. Like if you do not like it very sweet you can reduce on the sugar quantity and if you like it sweeter then add more sugar to your taste. Granola is a preferred snack for those who go for mountaineering, or trekking or camping as it stays fresh for a longer time and is high in nutritious values and as it is high in calorie, it suffices for the physical exertion that the athletes carry out every day.
Granola is a healthy and nutritious cereal, not just a filling for granola bars. Making your own at home is a great way to control what goes into it and you can make it as healthy as you like.
- Here is the ingredients that you would need to make granola:
- Two to three tea spoons of cooking oil
- Two table spoons of honey
- Maple syrup, if desired
- Half cup shelled sunflower seeds
- Two cups of regular rolled oats
- Dry fruits like one cup chopped walnuts, half cup sliced almonds, half cup dried cranberries, half cup golden raisins and one tea spoon cinnamon.

- Two third cup of brown sugar
- Salt to taste

- Mixing bowls

Steps to cook granola
- Put all the dry ingredients in a mixing bowl and mix them well with your hand.
- Place all the binder ingredients like the oil, brown sugar, honey and maple syrup and keep steering them for about three minutes.
- Pour the binder on the dry mix and keep mixing it with a wooden spoon. Repeat the process till you have poured all the binder into the mixing bowl.
- You can also use binder according to personal preference and taste.
- Keep the oven ready to bake. You can heat it upto 300 degrees F.
- Place the mixture of the binders and the dry items in baking pan and put it in the oven.
- Bake it for about 15 minutes.
- Remove from oven and put the mixture into a tin foil and cool it down. And then you can break that into clumps.
Homemade healthy granola is ready for delighting your morning cereal needs.
