How to Make Dill Pickles
Pickles are a great side serving with a number of dishes. You just place it on the dining table and you get all greedy hands trying to grab it. If you have prepared a relatively bland dinner knowingly omitting the spicy part, then pickles can make the dinner tasty without adding to the calories that you consume. If you are scared by the prospect of making pickles then here is a simple pickle that can add to your kitchen table. Make a bottle of dill pickle and surprise your nosy aunty for the Christmas dinner that you have thrown at her honor.
You need to get some pint jars to store the pickle and some pots, bowls and spoons to use for the preparation of the dill pickles.
Note down the ingredients
- About 10 to 12 Fresh Cucumbers (make sure they are not over ripe or soft of seedy)
- You also can get some Quick Process Pickling mix
- 2 cups of clear or cider vinegar
- Two to three table spoons of dill weed
- One to one and half cup of pickling salt or pre-granulated salt
- 6 to 8 cloves of garlic
Prepare cucumber
- Wash and cut cucumber in spears. Take out the top and bottom of each vegetable.
- Add pickle salt and water and dip cucumber pieces in it and leave for a night
- Clean the pint jars properly by sterilizing them and keep for storage.
- After cleaning and drying the jars, put some dill weed springs and garlic cloves in the jar and put the cucumber pieces taken from the salt water that you placed the night before.
- Put two more cloves of garlic and some dill weed in the jar and keep aside.
- Now mix water, salt and vinegar in a pot and boil it for a minute or so.
- Pour the boiling brine into the jars already packed with cucumber pieces.
- Clean the top of the jar for any brine that fell on it while you pour it into the jar.
- Tightly close the lid and place them back in the large pot with which you sterilized the jars.
- Let the water boil for about 10 minutes. Note that the water should come to little more than half of the jars.
- Leave them for about 6 to 8 weeks before you start serving them.
Tips:
Use jar lifters to remove the jars from the hot water.
You must get yourself a good pair of gloves before you start getting seriously into the pickling business.
