How to Make Crepes
If you are a foodie and you love trying out new dishes every time you enter your kitchen then you are going to love this one. How about some hand made breakfast on a lazy weekend. And decorating it with some creative appetizing manner!
Now, you need not actually be a perfect chef to cook the most delightful crepes. Crepes are thin and usually we all get scared of how to make it very thin but one thing to note it, crepes are not about paper thin so, you need not really bother about the thinness. Crepes do not need special frying pans but if you have got a nonstick pan then you can use it for preparing crepes. Don’t worry if you mess up a couple of the crepes that you make the first time you do it, even the people who do it regularly can mess up at times. You can just scramble the crepes that you mess up and serve it with some sugar. That would act as the side snack.
First of all you can keep the utensils like a whisk, fork, a non-stick pan, wooden spoon, electric mixer or eggbeater and plates ready along with some hot cases or Tiffin boxes ready to store the crepes if you want to eat later. Ingredients you would need to make crepes:
- 4 eggs

- ¼ teaspoon salt
- 2 cups flour
- 2 ¼ milk
- ¼ cup (½ stick) melted butter or margarine
Steps to prepare the batter
- Take a bowl (big enough to hold all the ingredients and make the batter easily).
- Break all the eggs into the bowl.
- Add salt to taste.
- Whisk the eggs and salt till they mix properly and the yolk should mix properly.
- Put two cups of flour.
- Whisk the flour and the eggs. Don’t panic if it looks lumpy.
- Add milk and make the batter into a thin paste. Make sure, you add milk and flour in less quantity as you don’t want it to be very thin to cook.
- Make a smooth batter and you can use the electric mixer to make it into a thin paste.
- Whisk the batter until it is smooth, like it looks here. It shouldn’t take more than a minute or two to whisk it smooth, from the time you started to add the flour.
- Add melted butter and whisk it again.
- Now, your batter is ready for making the crepes.

Make the crepes
- Heat oil or butter (use very less in quantity with a non-stick pan). Make sure it spreads all over the pan well.
- Pour some batter in to the pan and move it around so that it spreads around the pan. It would be just as big as your pan. Depending on the quantity of batter you put in, the thickness would vary.
- Check the bottom of the crepe and it if it light golden brown then it can be removed from the pan.
- Repeat this process till you have enough crepes to do the filling. Don’t use oil on the pan every time you put batter, its better to oil it after every 4th crepe.
Tips for serving:
- Serve the warm crepes with maple syrup spread on it or you can also spread any jam of your taste.
- If you want to make crepe rolls then you can add the filling of your choice and garnish it with cream or fruit shapes or sprinkle some caramel sugar for those who have a sweet tooth.
