Required Tools

All you need for accomplishing candles making work are scissors, fire extinguishers, wooden skewers, old nylon stockings, candle scents, candle sprays, candle dyes, candle molds, candle wax, candle wicks, stoves, double boilers, pot holders, aprons, candy thermometer, scissors, wooden spoons, fire extinguishers and pot holders etc.

Instructions

There are different types of wax, mold and wick available in the market to make candles. Pick your wax, and one-piece mold and wick.

Let the wax melt in a double boiler until it melts completely. But be careful not to warm the wax until it reaches the flash point and catch the fire. Different types of wax melt at different temperature. Wax can be explosive at high temperatures and so be present all the time when you heat the wax. Always keep with yourself a fire extinguisher or baking soda to be prepared for any risky situation as there are chances for the wax to catch fire. Don’t use water to extinguish fire.

Pour the wax efficiently in the mold. Do not fill it excess.

Smoothly knock the mold to discharge air bubbles in the wax.

Jab a skewer along the wick from time to time to free air bubbles building there.

When the wax will be cool, it will compress. Top off the wax. Keep the cooled candles with its mold in the refrigerator for a few minutes.
Turn the mold inverted over a clean towel. The candle will slip out.

Grip it by means of the wick only and use a nylon stocking to shine the candle. You may also drench it with candle spray or plain shoe polish spray.

Unknot the wick and slice ½ inch from the top of the candles.

Level out the bottom of the candle. You can do it by trimming the base. Or you can level it by heating it on a warm hot plate until the base is level by melting.

If you have chosen a two-piece molds:

The process is same as with the one-piece mold. Melt the wax. Oil two mold halves and pour the melted wax roughly to the top.

Leave the wax for sometime to be cool.

Tie a wick tab to one end of the wick and push it into place on one piece of the candles.

Add some more heated wax to both pieces and compress them together.

Take away the mold and crop the wick.

You can also insert the wick after the wax is poured. Well it depends on your personal choice. You can perform it by dipping the wick tab in the hot wax.
