You have to begin the process by measuring the items that you wish to store in the cabinet that you are building.
Next step will be figuring out the dimensions of the outdoor storage cabinet. You have to keep in mind that the depth of the cabinet should be at least 2 inches more than the depth of the storage items, the length of the cabinet should be at least 6 inches more than the length of the storage items and the overall width of the cabinet should be wide enough to house all your items.
Think whether you require shelves in your storage cabinet. After deciding on that, you have to find out the quantity of wood required for this purpose. The basic pieces of wood needed are 2 pieces (width by height), 2 pieces (depth by height), 2 pieces (width by depth) and some extra wood for creating the shelves, legs and the edging of the cabinet.
Visit your local lumberyard for purchasing the wood required for making the cabinet. Also buy the other essential items like paint/stain, door knobs, nails/screws, hardware and weatherproofing.
Start by cutting the pieces of wood for the top, bottom, back and the two sides of the cabinet. If you have decided to have shelves in your cabinet then also cut the wood for this purpose.
