How to Make Brown Rice How to Make Brown RiceBrown Rice is more nutritious than white rice because of its high-fiber bran coating. But most people are confused with the exact way of preparing the rice. It is much like white rice when boiled to cook. All you need is the proportion of water and rice to add and time for which you have to cook the rice. There are different ways of cooking brown rice.

Method: 1

  • Take 1 and half cup of water for 1 cup of rice.
  • Put both rice and water in a pot and bring it to boil with the pot uncovered. Remember that the flame should be kept at maximum till the rice boils.
  • Reduce the flame to low and cover the pot with a lid. Make sure that the steam can’t go out of the pot. The cover should be placed tightly. Leave the rice to steam for around 20 minutes.
  • Let the rice covered inside the pot for another 10 minutes after you turn off the flame. If you want the rice to be soft you can keep it more than 10 minutes.
  • Be careful while removing the lid as a lot of steam may come out of the pot.
  • Enjoy the rice with your favorite curry.

Method: 2

  • Take the type of brown rice you prefer.
  • Use four cups of water for one cup of rice.
  • Bring the water to boil over high heat in a bigger pot. In the mean time, rinse the rice under cold water.
  • Add the rice when the water boils and turn the heat to medium. Stir it once.
  • Keep the pot uncovered for 30 minutes and stir the rice occasionally.
  • Shift the rice to a strainer and keep it their till the rice is dry completely.
  • Take the rice back to the pot again and keep the lid of the pot covered for another 10 minutes. The lid of the pot should be covered tightly to make the rice tender.
  • Add salt to taste after removing the cover and serve.

Method: 3
If you want to add more taste to your brown rice, you can add vegetables after the rice is cooked.

  • Select the vegetables you want to add to the rice such as spring onions, bell peppers, carrots etc. and chop the vegetables.
  • Heat a pan and add 1 tablespoon of oil.
  • Add the vegetables to the pan and sauté them till they are cooked perfectly.
  • Add the cooked brown rice and mix it properly with the vegetables for 3-4 minutes at a medium-low heat. Keep stirring occasionally.
  • Serve hot.
