How to Make Asparagus Flowers
Asparagus is one of the vegetables that can be cooked in a variety of ways and each of them would be as tasty as the other. This perennial plant is full of dietary fiber and is very nutritious. Those who are on a low calorie diet love to have asparagus as it doesn’t contain much calories. Its long stout stems and feathery foliage also looks good as a decoration in a salad or meal. Asparagus is best eaten when it is tender and you can learn how to cook asparagus in different ways to make your dinner table more diverse and interesting.
Though, the usual process of making asparagus by baking, grilling or adding herbs and butter is old, why not try something with asparagus that looks as interesting to the eye as it please the taste buds. When it comes to appetizers, your skills as a cook comes to a test. You need to make the appetizer look really inviting and make mouths water. So lets try a new recipe with asparagus. Here is how you can do it.
Ingredients that you are going to need
- Fresh and tender asparagus. Choose perfectly stemmed ones.
- Take some meat like ham, or beef or chicken. Roasted meat has to be cut into thinner wafer like and keep them a bit longer.
- Take cheese and herb it with the spices that you like. You can take herbed cream cheese even.
- Fresh vegetables like chili pepper, capsicum both yellow and red, carrots and peas. Even you can take some broccoli or any other vegetable that you like in your salad.
Steps to prepare the appetizers
- Steam the asparagus for about 2 to 3 minutes. Make sure that it is cooked but not too tender. You are going to use them to decorate so make sure they are not too tender otherwise, you may not get the perfect shape. Taking equal sizes and thickness would ensure that they are all cooked properly.
- Take roasted meat and use a knife or a grater to take out wafer or paper like meat pieces. You can choose the meat want or take a combination of meat to make the decoration even more colorful
- Take the vegetables and blanch or steam them. Without making them lose their natural color, keep them slightly less cooked. This way you can avoid making them too tender.
- Take low fat cheese and add the spices that you like. Make it into a smooth paste. You can use parsley or minced garlic, pepper and salt as per your taste.
- Now take the meat pieces and spread one on the preparation plate.
- Fold both ends inside by leaving a gap in the middle. In your mind divide the meat pieces into three parts width wise. Fold in one part from each side like you do for making a paper boat.
- Now place it upside down to keep the folds on the outer side.
- Put a small amount of cheese on both ends. Now put little more cheese on the middle section.
- Place the asparagus on the cheese you placed in the middle.
- Roll the meat piece by taking one side first. Next roll the other side and see that you have made flower petals with the meat piece.
- Now take your vegetables and cut them into thin pieces. You can place them on the cheese in the way you like them. Try making different styles. Use your creativity to make them look more interesting.
Now place all the asparagus flowers on your serving tray and freeze them for some time before you serve them. You can serve it in room temperature as well.
