How to Make a Resume
A good resume should be effective enough to leave a lasting impression on the interviewer. We all are aware of the fact that a resume should include the summarization of all the academic and professional achievements of a prospective candidate for a particular job. However it should be kept in mind that the purpose of your resume is only to get short listed for a particular interview. Many of us feel that a good resume can secure us a job but we fail to notice that getting selected for a job depends on how effectively we clear the interview. The resume can however, help us in reaching to the desk of the interviewer. Therefore it is very essential that the resume is properly drafted and written. There are certain points that need to be taken care of while writing an effective resume. They are as mentioned below:
- Before starting to write the resume, one should spend some time in listing down all the achievements and accomplishments in one’s academic and professional fields. Make sure that you list down all your honors, awards and skills that you have ever received or achieved in your life. Do not forget that any small achievement or recognition that you have received in your academics or profession can leave a lasting impression on the interviewer. It is therefore very essential to spend an adequate amount of time to list all such accomplishments chronologically before starting to write the resume. Once the list is complete, then these points can be incorporated into your resume properly. It might happen that you fail to include your complete set of recognitions and achievements in your resume, but still having made the list will help you remember the details that you can later include in your interview.
- Make sure that your resume includes the details of your basic education. This can include the name of your school, the subjects that you were enrolled into, your major/minor subjects and finally the GPA. Mentioning the various subjects that you attended in school and college can help the interviewer in deciding the profile of your job or the nature of work that would suit you the most. Incase you had any extra curricular activities while being in school; do not forget to mention the same in your resume.
- After mentioning the academic details in your resume, you can now shift focus towards the professional details. If you are applying for your first job, then do not hesitate to mark yourself as a fresher. It is a general notion among employers to hire freshers for the purpose of attracting fresh and new ideas. However incase you have had any professional experience in the past, then make sure that you mention the name of your previous/current employers and the designation that you held in that particular organization. The duration of your professional experience is also very important. Therefore be very careful to mention every detail in the resume.
- The last portion of your resume should include the basic skill sets that you possess as a prospective candidate. This can include languages known by you, the level of computer literacy that you possess etc. You can also mention your hobbies and interests as an individual towards the end of the resume. You never know which interest or hobby of yours might tempt the prospective employer to call you for an interview!
