How to Make a Paper Hat
Is it time to celebrate your kid’s birthday and you want to have everything with a personal touch. You can very well do it and also take your little ones help so that he also gets the pride of lending a hand for the preparations. How about getting your kid learn to make paper hats for his birthday party? Also if you just want to give your kid something to be occupied with for some time when he can not go out to play is letting them learn and do something without messing around the house.
There are various types of paper hats that you can make like the triangle napoleon hat, the military hat, the “bishop’s” hat or painter’s pillbox hat. They are going to be great fun activity to make these hats and color and decorate them as well.
Simple Paper Hats

Steps to make a simple paper hat:
- First of all you need to have a large newspaper that has two pages in it. Or you can replace it with ordinary paper.
- Place the newspaper or paper on a table and spread it properly.
- Now, fold the paper into two equal parts taking the lengthwise.
- Make another fold in the similar manner.
- Now fold the corner of the paper into the middle and make sure you create a perfect point in the middle.
- Pick the bottom part on the paper and fold it on to the other side in width wise.
- Use some gum to stick the edges
- Now repeat it with the other side and stick it.
- Pick the bottom from the length wise and fold it on to the pointed side. Repeat it twice and secure with gum.

Steps to make a party hat:
- To make a paper party hat, you would need to cut the paper into 12×18 inches size.
- Place the paper on your drawing board and make a triangle.
- Take the straight edge of the triangle and give it the shale of a curved slightly oval shape.
- Now cut it out.
- Roll the straight end close to each other to make a cone.
- Use the gum stick to stick the edges.
- To make some frills, you can take a long strip of paper equal to the size of the hat’s rim.
- Now fold the paper to the last possible size.
- Use a paper knife to cut slits into it and make sure each of the piece in the slit is equal. Now place the uncut edge of the strip on the hat’s rim and stick it using the gum.
- Similarly you can make a pompom and stick to the point of the hat.
- Add glitter or bedazzlers to make the hat look good.
- You can use printed paper with spider man or superman images or popular cartoons for boys and use Barbie design paper to make girl’s hats.
- Use the 12″ side as the height and the 18″ to go around the head. To make the cone shape, draw a wide triangle, then change the bottom from a straight line to a curved shape.
- You may want to experiment using newspaper to get the shape right.
- Use whatever craft material you have on hand for the children to decorate the party hats.
- While the party hats are drying, put a line of white glue down one side of the triangle. Then rolled it into a cone shape. Use a paper clip on the top and bottom to hold it together until the glue dries.
