How to Make a Mini Ramp
It is just not possible and practical to head for the skate ramp anytime and every time that you want to skate. Even the most severe of skateboarders do not find it easy to visit a skate park everyday. So what’s the wait for? Let us try and build a mini ramp which can help all those skateboard fans perfect their skills of skating at home!! Mini ramps are the best way to practice skating and learn new skills without having to travel long distances and paying hefty entry fees for skate parks. And if you are wondering about its cost and storage aspects, then you will be amazed to know that mini ramps are fairly inexpensive and can be stored almost anywhere in your house or garage. Mini ramps are very easy to build provided you have the basic equipments and your buddies with you to lend you a helping hand! The things which are required to build a skate ramp are as follows:
- Couple of friends to help you out
- ¾ inch plywood
- 3/8 inch plywood
- Skill saw
- 2 by 4 wood screws
So, let us start building a mini skate ramp by following the step by step guide given below:
- To begin, you will have to first design or purchase building plans. There are a number of online stores which sell mini ramp plans and some of them even sell for free. These plans will give you an idea about the measurements and materials that you will need to build the mini ramp. Incase you do not find any reliable stores online; you can very well draw out your own plan. Take the help of an expert if needed.
- Now you will have to decide upon the size of the ramp. Generally mini ramps are wider than being tall. An average mini ramp would measure around 2 feet in height and 8 feet in length.
- You will have to choose a place which is spacious enough for you to work in. Make sure that the place that you have chosen is dry. It is best advised to work in such a place where you are planning to store your mini ramp. A garage with a workbench in it is considered as the best place to build and store your ramp.
- Take the wood and start marking the measurements on it. Choose one piece of the ¾ inch plywood and draw a line towards the right side of the wood till 28 inches. Now take your pencil to mark a separate line from the left to the centre of the plywood. The piece which you have thus got will serve as the deck of the mini ramp.
- Now you will have to draw another line of 6 feet in length towards the bottom of the ramp. This portion will serve as the bottom where you will ride up the ramp with your board.
- You have to now cut the wood along the lines that you have drawn. For building the opposite side of the ramp, you shall have to repeat this process on a second piece of plywood.
- Now is the turn of building the frame. You will have to fasten the 2 by 4’s screws to the side pieces of the wood that you have cut. Do not forget to space out the wood support beams enough so that it provides the mini ramp structure the much needed support.
- Take the 3/8 inch wood and fasten it to the frame of your mini ramp. Cross check all the screws and nails that you have used to see whether they are secured properly or not. Make sure that the board is thin to follow the curve of the mini ramp.
- Lastly you have to use a sandpaper to smoothen out the rough edges and your mini ramp is ready!
