How to Install Themes for WordPress
Owing to the rapid revolution in the web technology, blogging has become a way of life for many. Whether you want to have a business blog for your e-commerce website or a casual blog, blogging empowers you to share your hobbies, passion and a slice of every day life with your friends, colleagues, business partners, clients and acquaintances. Today, over 75% of the bloggers use WordPress to build their blogs online. However, due to the technicalities involved in the WordPress theme installation process, many seek professional assistance to build their blog. This article aims to share with you some very plain simple steps on how to install themes for WordPress to save you from depending on a web developer.
From the outset, we would like to tell you that there are two ways to install themes for WordPress – the new method and the old method.
Let’s Talk About The New Method First:
The steps described below are applicable if you are using the latest version of WordPress on your blog.
Log in to the WordPress Dashboard panel by using the admin username and password. When you’re logged in, you should see an option “Appearance” on the left side control panel of the Dashboard.
Appearance has a couple of sub options. Choose “Add New Themes” and click on that. It will take you to another location which reads “Install Themes”
On the Install Themes section, you will find a search box. Usually, this search box helps you find your favorite WordPress themes.
After choosing your favorite theme, you need to preview it by clicking on the preview option.
Depending on the preview of the theme, you can either install the theme or simply ignore it and search another WordPress theme.
And Now the Old Method:
Those who are still using the older version of WordPress (I suspect if anyone is still using it though) can try the following steps to install WordPress themes:
Step#1: When you download your favorite WordPress themes on to your computer, they are usually in zipped format. You need to make sure that you unzip them before you decide to upload them to your server.
Setp#2: Login to your FTP server first and then go the following location (wp content > themes). Then try uploading one of those unzipped WordPress theme folder to the location (usually known as WordPress Theme Directory)
Step#3: As the WordPress theme folder is uploaded to the server, now you should log in to the admin panel of your WordPress blog
Step#4: Click on the theme sub option below the appearance section. Now you can view all themes uploaded to your theme directory. Click on the “Activate Link” button below the desired them you want to choose. Now WordPress theme is completely installed and activated and ready for use.
