How to Install Fonts
The world of fonts is loaded with crazy and stylish fonts. Some of them are preinstalled in the system while many of them are available in plenty for download. These fonts include numerous original designs and some of them are handmade ones. The customized handmade designs are called the true type fonts. Although a majority of the PC users know how to make fonts, how and where to download the fonts, still they lack the basic understanding of how to install them on the system. A basic and simple technical knowhow of the basic registry structure shall allow one to install the fonts more easily. The fonts here refer to the TTF extension files. So follow theses few easy steps given below to install fonts on your PC in a hassle free way:
Steps to Add a New Font to a System
To install a font, follow these steps:
1. Click Start, and then click Run.
Type the following “command%windir%\fonts” and then click OK:
2. On the File menu, click Install New Font.
3. In the Drives box, click the drive that contains the font that you want to add.
The floppy disk drive is typically drive A or drive B. The CD drive is typically drive D.
4. In the Folders box, click the folder that contains the font that you want to add, and then click OK.
5. In the List of fonts box, click the font that you want to add. To select more than one font at a time, press and hold the CTRL key while you select each font.
6. Click to select the Copy Fonts To Fonts Folder check box. The new font is saved in the Windows\Fonts folder.
7. Click OK.
The knowledge of installing the fonts is not enough. In order to keep the system fast and stable we need to remove the fonts that are unnecessary and are never used.
Steps to Remove the Font
To remove a font from the hard disk, follow these steps:
1. Click Start, and then click Run.
2. Type the following “command%windir%\fonts “and then click OK:
3. Click the font that you want to remove. To select more than one font at a time, press and hold the CTRL key while you select each font.
4. On the File menu, click Delete.
5. When you receive the “Are you sure you want to delete these fonts?” prompt, click Yes.
Sometimes it is required to get back the pre-installed fonts that are present by default in the system in the most basic factory settings. Therefore to re-install the standard fonts that are included in the Windows package we need to do the following things. If any of the standard fonts that are included with Windows are missing, you can run Windows Setup again. Setup replaces missing or changed files. If the standard fonts are missing, other Windows files may also be missing. Setup also reinstalls these files. Finally the task of installing fonts to your PC is over. Refresh the system in order to get the changes.
