When you install the coil over springs it actually makes vehicle handling easier and even the traction of tires get improved, thus making your drive smoother and safer.

To get a coilover installed in your car, you can take your vehicle to a nearby local mechanic. But they often charge high price. So, to avoid unnecessary expenditure you can learn to install coil over spring to your vehicle on your own. It is a not a tough task. Following are some of the instructions that can help you to get coil over installed.

Steps

Firstly, remove the shocks and springs and jack up the vehicle. If the rear of the car is to be replaced, lift the rear of the vehicle. Place it on a jack stand and remove the rear wheels.
Now remove the front shocks and springs. Lift the car and place it onto a jack stand such that front portion is in the air. Remove the wheels and tires and place them out of the way.
Unbolt or unscrew the two bolts that hold the upper plate to the body. Once you have set the upper plate free, pry the lower mount loose. This way disassemble all the parts that you need to use for the coil over. However, if it does not come out, then slightly pull on it so that it gets dislodged. When all the parts get separated, set them aside and keep the nuts and bolts safely.
While disassembling the springs, make use of a spring compressor to safely get hold of the pressure of the springs. Now you can install new coil over spring using the disassembled parts, if required.
First try to install the front coil over springs. For this you will have to bolt the new front coil over springs to the shock mounts. Simply slide the coil over spring in right position and put the upper ball joint together. Once you complete jacking the lower arm in its apt position, replace the upper ball joint nut. You can do this with the aid of a matching socket and impact wrench. Now replace the cotter key with the help of needle-nose pliers. Bolt the new coil over spring in place and continue the process for the remaining side.
After you install the coil over spring in the front portion, fix up the rear coil over springs. With the help of impact wrench and matching socket, attach the top of the coil overs to your vehicle. Place the jack under the centre of the rear end housing and slowly start jacking it. Continue the process till the rear end housing meets the bottom of the new set of coil overs. Once the rear end housing is set in the right place, bolt the coil over springs. Having done with it, you can now place the jack down.
Now bring the vehicle down to the ground. First jack up the front of the vehicle and pull out the jack stand, then move to the rear side, jack it up far enough so that you are able to pull out the jack stand easily. Now bring the rear portion of the vehicle down to the ground.
