How to Install a Dishwasher
With a dishwasher installed in your kitchen, cleaning dirty utensils becomes easier. Whether you are installing a new dishwasher or replacing the older one, installation of the appliance requires knowledge of basic plumbing and electrical connections and also some familiarity with the tools. If you have it, then installation can be done easily. Following instructions will help you understand the right way of installing a dishwasher:
Instructions
- Prior you start the installation process make sure you have access to the hot water supply line, the drainpipe and an electrical connection under your kitchen sink. If your home is not plumbed in anticipation of a dishwasher, then you will have to make the necessary plumbing changes with the fittings under the sink so as to make these connections possible.
- Read the instructions given in the manual provided with your new dishwasher. Though installing it is a straightforward process, it is always better to refer to the manual instructions to ensure you carry out each step correctly.
- The first thing you need to do is to unwrap the new dishwasher properly. Remove all plastic and foam wrappings before installing it.
- Now make the hot water supply line connection to the appliance. Attach one end of the water line to the tap valve and the other end to your dishwasher’s water valve. Secure the connections by using a Teflon tape around the fittings. This tape will secure the water lines and prevent leakage at the connections.
- Next connect the dishwasher drain pipe to the drain pipe under the sink Make sure you tighten the connection with a cinching clamp. Often it so happens that the size of a drain hose is larger than the drain pipe itself. In such a case a cinch clamp can
help you fix the drain fittings accurately. - Use wire nuts to attach the electrical wiring to the small junction box that is placed on the dishwasher. The connections should be some what like – black to black, white to white and green/copper to green/copper. After it is done close the box.
- Run all the pipes and hoses under the cabinets to ensure they are not in plain view.
- Slide the dishwasher into its place while threading the connections. Make sure you have not pinched any of the cords or hoses in the process because it may disrupt the functioning.
- Plug the dishwasher into the electrical outlet. Just make sure the voltage supply is as per the requirement.
- Give it a test run.
