How to Give Your Pet Bird a Dust Bath
Dust is used as a cleaning force for many birds and animals who seeks to be protected from water from their feather or fur by a lean layer of natural oil. Dust is used as a super cleaner where water is useless. Each bird is individual and as such, will exhibit unique characteristics in regard to grooming behavior. Some birds like water and love to play in it and relish their time. Some birds even not conditioned to allow bathing and resist contact with water. However, they still need a dust bath and reluctant birds must be conditioned to accept it. There are several steps you can follow for giving your bird a dust bath.
Select place of bath
Arrange aluminum pan, ash, sand, loam and measuring cup for dust bath of a pet bird. Decide place of bath before you bird is ready. You can select a sunny place which is good for your bird. Direct sunlight keeps the contents of the bath dry. It helps to disappear extra moisture appear in dew and rain. The spot must be big enough to complete the bath process in a very easy and comfortable process.
Clean the bathing area
Remove the grass in that area. Make it clean and dig the place about some inches. Look over the hygiene condition while digging out as it may lead some infectious disease later. Remember your bird need to use dust bath often frequently. Make it in fifteen days or even in a month. Do not force your bird for dust bath. Wait till it becomes acquainted with the whole procedure.
Mix the ingredients in aluminum cup
Determine the cup of sand and pour it into an aluminum cake pan. Aluminum cake pans are economical, and can be tossed after a few uses. Add equal parts of sand, loam, ash in it. It is better to use shifted wood ash to rid it of small lumps that damage little feathers and makes it down. Mix all ingredients in equal quantity till it completely blended. Fill the area with square mixture. Keep the aluminum cup in the cage of the bird if the cage is large and supports its entry. Alternatively, you may set the aluminum pan on a table that is next to the bird’s cage. Allow the bird to go out so, that it can roll around in the dust.
Decorate outside bathing place
Line the out side area with bricks or some decorative stones to keep the mixture to drifting out the sun exposure. This gives an area for finished looks to entire decoration of the garden. There are few bathing options that an owner must realize before deciding to give a dust bath to the bird. Observe whether bird is comfortable with the bathing process or not. Do not try to force your bird for any such activities even if it is beneficial to them. Birds very much in the ways that they choose to bathe as per their own choice and requirements. Some birds love the feeling of a trickling shower, some prefer to stand in an excellent steam, and some like to dip themselves in a pool of water and rarely fond of dust bathing. So you have to make them familiar for such types of bath.
